The one and only Mother Monster is finally back. Her first single “Applause” off of her upcoming third studio album ARTPOP is a crowd pleasing, hand-raising dance hit. I do have to say, it didn’t really sway “Bad Romance”, my fave pop tune & music video from the top of my personal LG charts. (In its defense, it is a terribly hard act to follow). However, after obsessively watching it for a week, I’ve come to absolutely love this side of Lady G. From the hand bra fierceness to demure seashell bra Gaga, she shows a range that I haven’t seen from her before. Additionally, in her premiere at the MTV VMAs yesterday night, she rocked a variation of looks in 3 minutes, giving a nod from her past iconic successes (Pokerface, Telephone). In between, she donned a black leotard, to allude to a different, perhaps stripped-but-dramatic image for ARTPOP.
Since Born This Way, Gaga has explored and exposed a less packaged sound, style and look and has found a way to reinvigorate the pop scene with something familiar but different. And with this new album, she seeks to find a new way that people can interact with her music as well:
“Exploring Gaga’s existence as a cultural interface, the user will share in the ‘adrenaline of fame’ as they build and share their own projects, chat with one another, and watch in real-time on a virtual globe as ARTPOP explodes onto the physical and virtual universe at once on November 11.” says Lady G about her forthcoming album/album app.
If there is an artist in the pop world who will attempt to use a mix of technology, social media, and art to create something fresh, my money would be on Lady Gaga. Really looking forward to it!
