It’s that time of year, when you use a Hallmark holiday to create a blog post! Check out some of my favorite romantic tearjerkers:
The Notebook - I had to. Its a generational classic. And Gosling and McAdams just light up the screen together.
Grave of the Fireflies - Didn’t expect that one, eh? This on isn’t so much about love as it is about heartbreak. And instead of talking about romantic relationships, its one about the love between siblings. It is the only Japanese animated film that has ever made me cry.
Titanic - Another generational classic. Before James Cameron did blue aliens, he did a 1920’s epic love story. And no, I’ll never let go Jack. *insert Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” flute intro*
Legends of the Fall - One of my favorite movies ever. Tear jerker for sure.
Romeo + Juliet - Yes, the Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio version. I love Baz Lurhrman so this is an obvious choice. The fish tank sequence gets me every time. And I think they make Shakespearean sound pretty digestible.
Moulin Rouge - The love story isn’t as epic as the music is, but it’s an entertaining showpiece through and through. FYI, if someone sang a medley with, “Your Song” by Elton John, they’d have my heart indefinitely.
Brokeback Mountain - An unexpected love story. Beyond its groundbreaking content, the acting, writing, directing, and cinematography are pure magic.
