“I was in the winter of my life, and the men I met along the road were my only summer.”
And thus begins Del Rey’s ten minute mini-movie featuring the title track “Ride”. I know its a little dated, released last fall as a part of her Born To Die: Paradise Edition re-release. (All of which are wonderful additions to her debut album) However, its a video that time and time again I find myself revisiting.
The song itself is infused with themes of heartache, freedom, loneliness and individuality. The opening and closing monologues get me every single time. Del Rey is powerful with her words, spoken and sung. The films visuals are stunning and nostalgic, with dark tones.
To me, its perfection. Do yourself a favour and watch it.
